The HKUST Center for Aging Science recently participated in the NGO Tech Carnival 2026 – Tech for Residential Care Home Management, organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). Representing the Center, Prof. Jin QI, Associate Director of the Center and Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics at HKUST, delivered a presentation on how artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and decision analytics can support elderly care management and address the challenges of an ageing population.

In her presentation, titled "From Research to Better Care: Technology and Decision Analytics for Elderly Care Management," Prof. Qi introduced the mission and work of the HKUST Center for Aging Science, which promotes interdisciplinary research and translates research outcomes into practical solutions that enhance the health, well-being, and quality of life of older adults. The Center brings together expertise from engineering, life sciences, social sciences, business, and healthcare to address the complex needs of an ageing society.

Prof. Qi highlighted a range of research initiatives at HKUST that leverage AI, robotics, digital health technologies, and data analytics to support healthy ageing and improve care delivery. She shared examples of innovative projects that aim to enhance the quality of life of older adults while supporting caregivers and care organizations.

The presentation also showcased how data-driven decision analytics can be applied to real-world elderly care operations, including meal delivery planning, staff rostering, and service scheduling. These solutions can help care providers optimize resources, improve operational efficiency, and better meet the needs of older adults.

The event brought together industry professionals, NGOs, and care service providers to exchange ideas on technology-enabled elderly care. The HKUST Center for Aging Science looks forward to continuing collaborations with community and industry partners to advance healthy ageing through research, innovation, and practical impact.
