HKUST Center for Aging Science is pleased to share that HKUST faculty members participated as featured speakers at the Cornell-China Forum 2025, held in Shanghai and organized by Cornell University. The forum brought together university leaders, academics, industry experts, and policymakers to exchange ideas on sustainability, innovation, higher education, artificial intelligence, and healthy aging.
Representing HKUST, Prof. Tim CHENG Vice-President for Research and Development, joined Panel I: “Education for Sustainability: Systematic Approaches for Breakthroughs and Capacity Building.” The panel explored how higher education institutions can drive innovation, cultivate talent, and strengthen capacity-building efforts to support sustainable development.
Prof. Bert SHI, Director of the Center for Aging Science and Chair Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, participated in Panel II: “Rethinking Healthy Aging & New Practices with Societal Impact.” Together with experts from Microsoft Research Asia and Weill Cornell Medicine, Prof. Shi discussed emerging perspectives on healthy aging and innovative approaches to improving the well-being of older adults.
The discussion highlighted the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the opportunities and challenges associated with population aging. Participants exchanged insights on how research, technology, healthcare, and policy can work together to create meaningful societal impact and support healthier aging across communities.
The participation of Prof. Shi and Prof. Cheng reflects HKUST's commitment to advancing research excellence and fostering international collaboration. Through engagements such as the Cornell-China Forum, HKUST continues to contribute to global conversations on healthy aging, sustainability, and innovation.
